Reuse & Recycling Centre Operative – Work Experience

“I left school with GCSEs in Maths, English and Science.

During my time at the Recycling and Reuse Centre, I have learnt valuable skills in customer service. Talking with members of the public on a daily basis has given me more confidence. The work experience has given me a positive taste of working and is so different from the routine I had at school. I have learnt that it is important to recycle waste to reduce costs to the public, to use the correct methods of disposal for waste that could be harmful to the environment, and, I understand the role of the Environmental Agency, ensuring good standards are maintained. Personally I have used a computer to maintain waste records for yearly auditing & I have learnt the importance of good time-keeping and team work.

After my training placement I would like to join LondonWaste as a permanent member of the recycling team and will hopefully work my way up to supervisor

I would recommend this type of training programme to anyone, as it’s a great way to work as part of a team gaining new skills and experience of working life.”
