We founded Action for Community & Environment(ACE) under the name 8Plastics Plus as our original focus was simplifying the collection of household plastics recycling to ensure that fewer plastics end up in landfill or are incinerated. As our programme expanded to engage individuals, communities and businesses in sustainability as a whole, we needed a new working name which matched our priorities better.

At ACE we are still greatly concerned about the plight of plastics. Plastics are a versatile, hardwearing material which have benefited humans through its application in medicine, electronics or transport. Most plastics, however, are used for packaging and discarded within one year of production. Due to their durability and disposable usage, the detrimental effect of plastics on the environment is immense. Reducing plastics consumption, reusing plastic items and recycling plastics therefore is crucial.
