Training

Iyke Anyanwu

Iyke has over 16 years experience campaigning on pro-environmental issues and promoting sustainability. He campaigned for Greenpeace Greece and Greenpeace Sweden as well as engaged with communities for Waste Watch and Friends of the Earth. He has worked with councils all across London and delivered behaviour change campaigns such as Love Food Hate Waste. He is a permanent member of the Sea Turtle Protection Society, a committee member of West Ealing Neighbours and part of the West London local network of Greenpeace UK.

Alistair Brudenell

Alistair has worked as a Recycling Advisor in boroughs across London, collected quantitative data on recycling participation and has carried out environmental audits. He also has experience of working with volunteers and promoting campaigns such as Protect Rural England and LFHW for Essex County Council. He has worked as liaison in academic-industrial consortia working on contracts from government agencies such as DEFRAMAFF and has experience working with the Environment Agency database.

Stefanie Hughes MSc

Stefanie is an Environmental Scientist and has experience in environmental education and waste management. She has previously worked for the Wildlife Trusts leading educational sessions for pupil groups both in schools and outdoors in parks and nature reserves. She worked with Yara delivering recycling events in the Western Riverside boroughs for Waste Watch and engaging with communities to increase recycling rates in Haringey. Stefanie is currently working in the waste management team for the London Borough of Bexley.

Sustainability Project Co-ordinator (Maternity Cover)

Background
Action for Community & Environment (ACE) is a registered charity which creates pro-environmental behaviour change, supports communities to take action in their local area and works with business’s to adopt best practice in environmental sustainability. The Sustainable Communities Project was developed to help communities engage with sustainability by providing free interactive workshops covering different aspects of sustainable living.

The Role
This is a maternity cover post starting in April 2016.
The role of the sustainability project coordinator is to coordinate the project and volunteers, engage with housing associations and other community groups, and manage our social media presence. You and our qualified volunteers will need to attend meetings with housing associations and other community groups and engage face to face with residents to inform them about waste reduction, recycle, and adopt other sustainable practices.
Responsibilities
– Manage and coordinate the sustainable communities project
– Liaise with local authorities, housing associations and community groups
– Recruit and manage volunteers
– Prepare and deliver environmental education material
– Data entry in Excel format
– Monitoring and evaluation reports
– Update social media tools
Qualifications and experience
A relevant degree in a subject such as environmental or earth sciences, geography, geology etc.
A postgraduate qualification in waste or environmental management may be beneficial, particularly for graduates without an appropriate first degree.
Experience in the third sector, coordinating projects and volunteers will be taken into account.

Sustainability Officer (Part-time)

The Role
We are looking for an intern to join our small team based in Old Street, London as a Sustainability Officer. This role would suit confident individuals who work well alone and as part of a small team. It is a great opportunity for anyone looking to further a career in sustainability, where further training will
be provided.
The primary role is to help coordinate our Sustainable Communities Project, which supports local communities by providing workshops which promote sustainable living and provide guidance.
These cover various aspects of sustainability including: food waste avoidance, energy saving and recycling. We are looking for someone proficient using various social media tools to improve our online presence.

Exam Invigilator

Background

Action for Community & Environment (ACE) is a registered charity (no 1149290) which creates pro-environmental behaviour change, supports communities to take action in their local area, and works with businesses to adopt best practice in environmental sustainability.

We are looking for suitable candidates to recruit as invigilators to run examinations for our training course on an ad-hoc basis. This position pays £30 per hour.

Job Description

No prior knowledge of the course content is required

Once at the exam location you are entrusted to ensure that all exam guidelines are met; that the candidates are aware of these guidelines and the conditions of the exam, and that any incidents are reported back to us. This work will primarily be conducted on your own.

All necessary equipment and paperwork will be provided.
